MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Miami Hurricanes quarterback Jacory Harris was looking to have a breakout season in 2011 in his final year of eligibility. But, after being named by a Yahoo! Sports investigation as having taken improper benefits from a booster, his entire season is in question.

Harris was declared ineligible by the University of Miami Thursday, but that was a procedural move to force the NCAA to make the decision on whether Harris can play or not. The NCAA is expected to rule on Harris’ eligibility in the coming week.

Harris said Saturday in his first public comments that he fully expects to be under center September 5 when the Canes do battle with the Maryland Terrapins on national television.

But, all eight players declared ineligible by the school will have to wait for the NCAA to issue its ruling before they can step on the field for a regular season game. The school has asked the NCAA if the players can be reinstated in time for the Maryland game.

For Harris, being ineligible could have ended his pursuit of the starting quarterback job. Harris had been battling Stephen Morris for the starting signal caller’s job, but if the NCAA doesn’t rule on Harris before the opener, it will be Morris under center against the Terps.
